PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Thank you to the many family members that joined us for our open afternoon. I know we had many excited students who wanted to share their work with a family member and families who wanted to meet their child’s 2023 teacher.

I would also like to congratulate our Grade 7/8 students who worked so beautifully with their grade 1/2 buddy students. There were lots of smiles all round on both teenage and little people’s faces. The importance of connection and creating a sense of belonging across the school is so very important.

The last week has seen many changes to the normal school routines, as we have had Questacon visit, NAPLAN testing and the completion of events from our recent athletics carnivals. Change in routine can be tricky, however most of our students impressed staff with their ability to cope with these changes.

I would like to congratulate our athletics champions for 2023. Well done to the following:

As the days start to cool down, please make sure that your child has a school jumper/jacket with them each day. In addition to our school office supplies, our school op shop has a good supply of second-hand uniform items. Our amazing team of volunteers at the op shop have now expanded the services of the op shop to include costume hire, catering for both children and adults. What a great initiative!

The term is quickly racing by and a reminder that the last day of term 1 for students in Grades K-10 is Wednesday 5th of April. Thursday April 6th is a state-wide moderation day. On this day, teachers across the state participate in moderation meetings, analysing student work samples against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards. Moderation of student work enables consistency of marks given, in each subject, regardless of which school a student attends. Please note that our year 11/12 students still have classes on Thursday 6th April.

Kind regards,
Anita Haley

CANTEEN SPECIALS – TERM 1

BUSH KINDER

Kinder started Bush Kinder sessions this week and we are learning about what being on country is. Below are some photos showing what we did for ‘how does on country feel’. There is also a picture of the words the children came up with to describe the experience.

GR. 1/2 VINCENT – AUTUMN ART

Grade 1/2 Vincent have been observing seasonal change and have made these lovely paint-dyewash autumn trees.

GR. 1/2 SZYCMAN

EGG COLOURING

In HASS (Humanities and Social Science) the grade 1/2s are learning how daily life has changed over time. Nanny Christine told us that traditionally eggs were created by drawing on them with melted wax and then dipping them in dyes. We used oil pastels to draw on our eggs and then we dipped them into dye made from boiled onion skins.

OUR BUDDIES

Grade 1/2s have been having fun with our Grade 7/8 buddies.

GR. 3/4 LAMBERT – PEACOCK FEATHER DRAWINGS

3-4 Lambert have been doing some Art, focusing on line, using grey lead and shading colours.

Here are some examples of our peacock feathers which we drew using a real peacock feather. A real peacock feather helped us with our shading and definite features.

PREP CHISHOLM - OUR SPECIAL PLACE

In Prep we have been learning about different places and talking about special places.

We drew our special place and explained why it is special to us.

PREP-2 INDONESIAN ARTWORK

Indonesian classes from Prep to grade 2 collaborated in a large artwork depicting images from Indonesian culture.

We asked the question:

  • What interests you when you look at images that show aspects of Indonesian culture?

Our success criteria:

  • To produce a class piece of work we are proud of.
  • To be able to explain any cultural information we may have discovered.
  • To find something that sparks our curiosity.
